Second Chance Coffee Company, formed in 2007, has an exciting product and inspiring mission. Their I Have a Bean coffee is micro-roasted and shipped fresh within one day of roasting for a superbly satisfying coffee drinking experience. They're also committed to giving people second chances – building its business model around employing ex-offenders.

Challenge: As a startup, resources for developing their business and their roasting technology were extremely limited. They knew they needed a web-based sales and operations model, an operations application designed for employees with very little computer experience and a site that was easy to administer and flexible to change in response to evolving market conditions.

Results: To help them successfully launch their coffee brand and make their financial resources stretch further, we helped them think through, refine and create a technology platform for an online frontend and backend sales and operations system. We partnered with them to create a global engineering team that provided development, testing and implementation services. From defining initial requirements to implementing them into a system, the new platform allowed them to successfully enable relatively uneducated ex-offenders to make premium coffee.
